The Pipe....At the Toronto International Film Festival
I am the director of an documentary entitled ‘The Pipe’ following the lives of people in Co. Mayo who have been affected by the Corrib Gas pipeline. We won best feature documentary at the Galway Film Fleadh and have been selected to have our international premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The reaction to the film has been really overwhelming and we hope to bring the film to as wide an audience as possible as it is a story which has been 4 years in the making. I would love to get in touch with as many Irish-Canadian people and groups as possible and love to make contact with you and get as many people along to the film as possible – we have 3 screenings on the 10th, 11th and 13th of September. It would be great also if we spread the word amongst your friends and colleagues, and get a really good momentum going along with the film as we need all the support as can get in such a massive event as this. We have a website and facebook page too:
and www.facebook.com/pages/The-Pipe-The-Film
The official film festival page for the film is http://www.tiff.net/filmsandschedules/tiff/2010/pipe

Chulrua,
a trio playing Irish traditional music, includes Paddy O’Brien on accordion,
Patrick Ourceau on fiddle, and Pat Egan on guitar and vocals.
Our
music is the old instrumental dance melodies of Ireland: jigs, reels, hornpipes,
polkas, and the occasional song. We also play walking marches, slow airs, set
dances, and the harp music of Turlough O’Carolan and others.
Our concerts
are in keeping with the old tradition—music in a relaxed, intimate atmosphere,
and tunes offered as they were handed down from generation to generation in
Ireland. Chulrua (pronounced cool-ROO-ah), translates from the Irish as "red
back," and was the name and distinguishing feature of the favorite wolfhound
belonging to ancient Irish hero Fionn MacCumhaill.

Close is a love song drowned out by the hum of the technological
landscape we find ourselves in. A show about how technology is bringing us
together and separating us apart.

It
is with the greatest of pleasure, and the utmost excitement that the Toronto

Debbie Quigley, Tin Whistle - Deb Quigley was born in
Newtownards, County Down and lived during the early 70's in the town of Bangor
where she was first introduced to the native music of Ireland.
Chris
(Charlie Ferguson) R.I.P. whistle and flute player also from Bangor was a huge
influence on her music during the formative years. During the late 80's she was
once again inspired musically by the playing and teaching of the late Chris
Langan Uillean piper, instrument maker, and music teacher originally from Rush,
County Dublin who lived for many years in Toronto. Deb credits much of her music
to the patient, and informative teaching style of her mentor and
friend.
Deb Quigley is herself a skilled and patient
teacher who teaches both privately at her home in Toronto as well as Irish music
festivals across North America. She is also a teacher with the St. Paul's school
of Irish Music in Toronto and has several whistle students who are introduced to
the music in a patient, and encouraging way which has resulted in a positive,
inspiring, and creative experience for her students.
Deb Quigley's music
continues to be much in demand for recordings, weddings, sessions, and concert
performances. She has recorded with several artists and in 2004 produced her own
Cd with guitarist Martin Gould. In 2007 she was a featured performer at the Gala
concert at Roy Thomson Hall to celebrate the opening of Ireland Park by
President of Ireland Mary McAleese.
We are delighted to have Debbie as our resident Tin
whistle teacher at the Toronto School of Traditional Irish Music.
